From Proto-Indo-Aryan *HsuHápas, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *HsuHápas (“doing good work; artistic, well created”), from Proto-Indo-European *h₁suh₃épos, from *h₁su- (“good”) + *h₃ep- (“work”). Cognate with Old Avestan 𐬵𐬎𐬎𐬁𐬞𐬀𐬵‎ (huuāpah, “doing good work”), Persian خوب‎ (xūb, “good, well, nice”).
