Etymology
Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘭𑘰𑘽𑘚𑘜𑘹 (sāṁḍaṇe), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀙𑀁𑀟𑀇 (chaṃḍaï) (compare Sanskrit छृनत्ति (chṛnatti), छर्दति (chardati)). Cognate with Gujarati છાંડવું (chā̃ḍvũ), Hindustani چَھان٘ڈْنَا / छाँड़ना (chā̃ṛnā), Sindhi ڇَنڊَڻُ / छंडणु. Related to Punjabi ਛੱਡਣਾ (chaḍḍaṇā) / چھڈّݨا (chaḍḍṇā).
