Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘃𑘘 (īṭa), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀇𑀝𑁆𑀝𑀸 (iṭṭā), from Sanskrit इष्टका (íṣṭakā). Cognate with Gujarati ઈંટ (ī̃ṭa), Hindustani اِین٘ٹ / ईंट (ī̃ṭ), Punjabi ਇੱਟ (iṭṭa) / اِٹّ (iṭṭ).
