Etymology

From Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hráwdʰitas, from Proto-Indo-European *h₁rewdʰ- (“red”). Cognate with Avestan 𐬭𐬀𐬊𐬌𐬜𐬌𐬙𐬀‎ (raoⁱδita), English red. Doublet of रोहित (rohita). Also related to रुधिर (rudhira, “red”).
