Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘩𑘰𑘽𑘤𑘜𑘹 (lāṁbaṇe), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀮𑀁𑀩𑀇 (laṃbaï), 𑀮𑀁𑀩𑁂𑀇 (laṃbei), from Sanskrit लम्बते (lámbate). Related to लांब (lāmba). Compare Sindhi لَمَڻُ / लमणु, Punjabi ਲਮਕਣਾ (lamkaṇā) / لَمَکݨا (lamakṇā) (with Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓𑁆𑀓- (-kka-)).
