From Proto-Indo-Aryan *rinákti, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *rinákti, from Proto-Indo-European *linékʷti (“to leave”). Cognate with Avestan 𐬭𐬀𐬉𐬗𐬀𐬌𐬌𐬈𐬌𐬙𐬌 (raēcaiieiti), Latin linquō (“I leave, I forsake”), Old Armenian լքանեմ (lkʿanem). Compare also English re-linquish, a Latin borrowing.
