Etymology
From Proto-Indo-Iranian *miždʰám, from Proto-Indo-European *misdʰóm. Cognate with Avestan 𐬨𐬍𐬲𐬛𐬀 (mīžda), Persian مزد (mozd), Ancient Greek μισθός (misthós, “wage”), Old Church Slavonic мьзда (mĭzda, “reward”), Old English mēd (whence English meed).
