From Maharastri Prakrit 𑀫𑀭𑀇 (maraï), from Sanskrit मरति (marati) or Sanskrit मरते (marate). Compare Hindi मरना (marnā), Gujarati મરવું (marvũ), Nepali मर्नु (marnu), Bengali মরা (môra).
