Etymology
From Proto-Indo-Aryan *bábʰasti, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *bábʰasti, from Proto-Indo-European *bʰé-bʰos-ti (reduplicated athematic present), from the root *bʰes-; compare प्साति (psāti, “to chew”).[1]
