Inherited from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀢𑀝𑁆𑀞 (taṭṭha) (compare Old Marathi 𑘝𑘰𑘙𑘰 (tāṭhā)), from Sanskrit तष्ट (taṣṭá). Compare Hindustani ٹَھٹْھنَا / ठठना (ṭhaṭhnā).
