Borrowed from Persian داغ (dâğ). First attested as Old Marathi 𑘚𑘰𑘐 (ḍāga). Compare Gujarati ડાઘો (ḍāgho), Hindustani داغ / दाग़ (dāġ), Sindhi داغُ / दागु, Punjabi ਦਾਗ਼ (dāġ) / داغ (dāġ), Maithili दाग (dāg) / 𑒠𑒰𑒑 (dāga), Bengali দাগ (dag), Assamese দাগ (dag).
