Etymology
From Proto-Indo-Iranian *čítˢtiš (“thought”), from Proto-Indo-European *kʷéyt-ti-s ~ *kʷit-téy-s (“thought”), from *kʷeyt- (“to notice”). Cognate with Avestan 𐬗𐬌𐬯𐬙𐬌 (cisti, “consciousness”) and Proto-Slavic *čь̏stь (“honour, respect”).
