Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘑𑘳𑘦𑘜𑘹 (ghumaṇe), from Prakrit 𑀖𑀼𑀫𑁆𑀫𑀇 (ghummaï), from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀖𑀼𑀫𑁆𑀫𑀢𑀺 (*ghummati).
