Inherited from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀔𑀟𑁆𑀟𑀸 f (khaḍḍā, “hole”). Related to खाडी (khāḍī). Compare Hindustani گَڈَّھا / गड्ढा (gaḍḍhā), Sindhi کَڏَ / खॾ, Punjabi ਖੱਡਾ (khaḍḍā) / کھڈّا (khḍḍā).
