From a derivative of Maharastri Prakrit 𑀉𑀚𑀼 (uju), from Sanskrit ऋजु (ṛju, “straight, right”), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hr̥ĵúš, from Proto-Indo-European *h₃r̥ǵéws. Cognate to Konkani उजवें (uzvễ).
