Inherited from Sanskrit कोष्ठ (koṣṭha, “a granary, store-room, a treasure, an inner apartment, hollow in a tree”). Cognate to Sinhalese කොටුව (koṭuwa, “enclosure, fortress, castle”). Doublet of ކޮޓަރި (koṭari), ކޮށާރު (koṣāru), ކޮޑި (koḍi), ކޮށި (koṣi), and ކޮޓި (koṭi)
