Etymology 2
Borrowed from Northern Kurdish طباخ (tebax), itself borrowed from Aramaic טַבַּח (tabbaḥ, “to slaughter an animal to be prepared for a meal”) given to the month when Nineveh fell.

Usage notes
- ܐܵܒ (āb) is the most common name for the month of August alongside ܛܲܒܵܚ (ṭabbāḥ), the two fairly being interchangeable. However there is a push for ܛܲܒܵܚ (ṭabbāḥ) to be used more often, due to August 7 being ܝܵܘܡܵܐ ܕܣܵܗܕܹ̈ܐ ܐܵܫܘܿܪ̈ܵܝܹܐ (yāwmā d-sāhdē āšorāyē, “Assyrian Martyrs Day”)
