Learned borrowing from Classical Syriac ܕܲܥܬܝܼܕ݂‎ (“that which is prepared”), from ܕ-‎ (“that; which”) and ܥܬܝܼܕ݂‎ (“prepared (masculine)”), passive participle of the verb ܥܬܕ‎ (“to prepare”).
