From Middle Persian kwlʾck' (kulāčag, “small, round bun”), possibly related to کلوچ (koluč, “lump”).
The nature of the relation with Ancient Greek κόλλιξ (kóllix, “roll or loaf of bread”) and Proto-Slavic *kolãčь (“type of bread, pastry”), if any, is uncertain.
