From Middle Persian [script needed] (cwp /čōb/, “wood, stick”). Cognate with Central Kurdish چو (çu), شیو (şîw), Sanskrit क्षुपा (kṣupā, “bush”). Note also Middle Armenian շիւ (šiw).
