Etymology

From Arabic نَظَرَ‎ (naẓara). The voiceless quality of the stop is irregular. It might have been influenced by the t in related اِنْتَظَرَ‎ (intaẓara), or perhaps by Aramaic נְטַר‎‎ (nəṭar).
