ناز • (nâz)
- (archaic) delight
- luxury, comfort
- coquetry
- affection
- coyness
- fondling
Usage notes
The term has no exact equivalence in English, and the meaning of "coquetry" or "flirtation" may be misleading. ناز is a concept central to Persianate culture and tradition, it may refer to coquetry, but also not, as it does not need to be proactive or confined within flirtation or love games. ناز is a trait, a state of being, a compromised modesty that titillates, warms, frustrates and therefore entices the heart.
