- spot of different color, sign of refinement
- 609–632 CE, Qur'an, 2:71:
- إِنَّهَا بَقَرَةٌ لَّا ذَلُولٌ تُثِيرُ الْأَرْضَ وَلَا تَسْقِي الْحَرْثَ مُسَلَّمَةٌ لَّا شِيَةَ فِيهَا
- ʾinnahā baqaratun llā ḏalūlun tuṯīru l-ʾarḍa walā tasqī l-ḥarṯa musallamatun llā šiyata fīhā
- ’Tis a cow not made to comply to plough the earth or irrigate the field, but is untainted with no spot upon her.
