Borrowed from Aramaic רְקִיַעָא /‎ ܪܩܝܺܥܴܐ (rəqīʿā), from Hebrew רָקִיעַ (rāqī́aʿ).

رَقِيع (raqīʿ) m or f (plural أَرْقِعَة (ʾarqiʿa))

  1. firmament, first heaven, canopy
    • 7th century CE, Jamīʿ at-Tirmiḏiyy, 47:
      «هَلْ تَدْرُونَ مَا فَوْقَكُمْ؟» قَالُوا: «اللّٰهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ»‏.‏ قَالَ ‏«فَإِنَّهَا الرَّقِيعُ سَقْفٌ مَحْفُوظٌ وَمَوْجٌ مَكْفُوفٌ.»‏
      “Wit ye what is over you?” They said: “God and his messenger wit best”, and he said: “Forsooth it is a wared ceiling canopy the billow of which is held back.”
