Etymology
Not a classical word. Given that the natural distribution of Angelica archangelica and other Old World species has its southern limit not much beyond the Caucasus and Central Asia, probably a calque of Ottoman Turkish ملك اوتی (melek otu, “angelica”) and that of French angélique – Meninski yet does not know the word and gives for angelica سنبل خطایی (sümbül-i hetayı, literally “Cathay nard”) which is now current in Persian.

- Warnings for the mother: The pregnant woman should not use the following herbs after pregnancy: angelica, thousand-leaf, bugbane, the women’s herb hyssop, wild mint, ephedra, common comfrey, tansy, chaste tree, genista, liquorice, goldenseal, because these herbs further the activity of the uterus and therefore the occurrence of premature delivery.
