Borrowed from Aramaic תורמוסא / ܬܘܪܡܣܐ (tūrmūsā, “lupine”), from Akkadian 𒋻𒄷 (TAR.MUŠ8 /tarmuš/), from Sumerian 𒋻𒄷 (TAR.MUŠ8 /tarmuš/). Also found as Ancient Greek θερμός (thermós) and Coptic ⲑⲁⲣⲙⲟⲥ (tharmos) and in the taxonomical Lupinus albus subsp. termis.
