Borrowed from Aramaic תורמוסא‎ / ܬܘܪܡܣܐ‎ (tūrmūsā, “lupine”), from Akkadian 𒋻𒄷 (TAR.MUŠ₈ /tarmuš/), from Sumerian 𒋻𒄷 (TAR.MUŠ₈ /tarmuš/). Also found as Ancient Greek θερμός (thermós) and Coptic ⲑⲁⲣⲙⲟⲥ (tharmos) and in the taxonomical Lupinus albus subsp. termis.
