بین الاقوامی
Urdu
Alternative forms
- بین اقوامی (bain-aqwāmī)
Etymology
From Arabic بَيْنُ الأَقْوَام (baynu l-ʾaqwām, “between the nations”) + ـی (-ī), probably modeled after Persian بین المللی (beyn-olmelali) or borrowed from Classical Persian. The Arabic word قوم is used (loaned via Persian) in the sense of “nation”, which is the standard term in Urdu قوم (qaum). In Arabic itself, the word دُوَلِيّ (duwaliyy) has become standardised for “international”.
