Etymology
From Ottoman Turkish بالطهجی (baltacı, “hatchetman, axeman”), Modern Turkish baltacı. Comprised of بالطه (“axe”) and جى (“a suffix denoting a profession or occupation”), Modern Turkish balta and -çi. See Baltacı.
