Belfeld
Dutch
Etymology
First attested as belven in 1326. Etymology uncertain. The oldest attestations indicate the name is a compound formed from an uncertain first element and veld (“field”). The proposed reading of the name as a compound of Proto-Germanic *bala- (“white”) and ven (“bog, marsh”) is incorrect.
