From root ء خ ذ (ʾ-ḵ-ḏ). From Proto-Semitic *ʔaḫaḏ-. Cognate with Hebrew אָחַז (aḥáz), Aramaic ܐܚܕ (ʾeḥaḏ), Sabaean 𐩱𐩭𐩹 (ʾḵḏ).
