Etymology

Root
צ־ה־ר‎ (ṣ-h-r)

Cognate with Arabic ظُهْر‎ (ẓuhr) and Aramaic טהרא‎ (ṭahrā). For use of the dual, compare ערביים / עַרְבַּיִם‎ ('arbáyim, “twilight, dusk”). Equivalent to the dual of צוהר / צֹהַר‎ (tsóhar). Perhaps distantly related to זוהר / זֹהַר‎ (zóhar).

     אכלנו צהריים, דפדפנו בחוסר ענין בעיתונים ודיברנו על אהבה.‎

     akhálnu tsohoráyim, difdáfnu b'khóser inyán ba'itoním v'dibárnu ál ahavá.

     We ate lunch, leafed uninterestedly through the newspapers, and talked about love.
