Etymology
The "friendship" sense is a backformation from עמית, itself related to Aramaic עֲמִיתָא (“friend”) and Akkadian emūtu (“family, company”), and the root ע־מ־ה.[1](This etymology is missing or incomplete. Please add to it, or discuss it at the Etymology scriptorium.)
