Etymology

From ־שט‎ (-sht) suffixed onto Hebrew כְּלוֹמַר‎ (k'lomár, “that is to say”), from כְּ־‎ (k'-, “as”) + לוֹמַר‎ (lomár), infinitive of אָמַר‎ ('amár, “to say”).
