1. a cairn (a heap of stones used as a monument)
   • Genesis 31:47-48, with translation of Aryeh Kaplan:

     ‏וַיִּקְרָא־לוֹ לָבָן יְגַר שָׂהֲדוּתָא וְיַעֲקֹב קָרָא לוֹ גַּלְעֵד׃ וַיֹּאמֶר לָבָן הַגַּל הַזֶּה עֵד בֵּינִי וּבֵינְךָ הַיּוֹם עַל־כֵּן קָרָא־שְׁמוֹ גַּלְעֵד׃‎‎

     vay-yiqrá lo Laván y^egár sah^adutá v^eYa‘^aqóv qára lo Gal‘éd. vay-yómer Laván hag-gal haz-zeh ‘ed beiní uvein^ekhá hay-yom ‘al-kén qará-sh^emo Gal‘éd.

     Laban called it Witness Mound (Yegar Sahadutha), but Jacob named it Gal'ed. 'This mound shall be a witness between you and me today, ' said Laban. 'That's why it is called Gal'ed.

     ve-Yiftáḥ hag-gil‘adí hayáh gibbór ḥáyil ve-hu ben isháh zonáh vay-yóled Gil‘ád ’et-Yiftaḥ.
