Etymology 3

From Proto-Semitic *gVr- (whelp). Closely related to Aramaic גּוּר (gur) and Classical Syriac ܓܘܼܪܝܵܐ (gūryāʾ, cub). Standard Babylonian 𒄀𒅕𒊒 (girru, lion) and Arabic جَرْو (jarw, cub) are other Semitic relatives.
