Borrowed from Aramaic אוּמָּנָא (ʾūmmānā, “artist, artisan, craftsman”) (Classical Syriac ܐܽܘܡܳܢܳܐ), from Akkadian 𒌝𒈪𒀀 (UM.MI.A /ʾummānu/, “expert, artisan, artist, craftsman, foreman”).[1][2][3]
