Etymology
Coined by Eliezer Ben-Yehuda, based on Aramaic אבצא (“tin”) and Arabic بَيَّضَ (bayyaḍa, “to whiten, to tin”), he reasoned that Hebrew already had בְּדִיל (b'dil, “tin”) so the root could be used for another metal.
