Etymology
The original spelling is աւգն (awgn), from Parthian *abi-gūna-, ultimately with the preverb *Habí- from the root *gaw- (“to increase”), whence Avestan 𐬔𐬏𐬥𐬀𐬊𐬙𐬌 (gūnaoti, “to increase”). Related to օգուտ (ōgut).
