Borrowed from an unidentified cognate of Arabic سَنُّوت (sannūt), Akkadian 𒅆𒂍𒌈 (/šibittu/), Hebrew שֶׁבֶת (šéḇeṯ), Jewish Babylonian Aramaic שִׁיבְתָא (šiḇəṯā), Classical Syriac ܫܒܬܐ (šəḇettā), Persian شوید (ševid), Arabic شِبِثّ (šibiṯṯ).
