Old Armenian
Etymology
By assimilation from earlier *պատսաճ (*patsač), borrowed from a Middle Iranian word of the shape patsāč-, composed of *pati- (a preverb) and *cāčáyati (“to prepare, make ready”).
For the ս...ճ (s...č) assimilation to շ...ճ (š...č) compare աստիճան (astičan) → աշտիճան (aštičan), սոճի (soči) → շոճի (šoči), աստուճ (astuč) → աշտուճ (aštuč).
