From Middle Armenian մախթ (maxtʿ), մաղթ (małtʿ).

- (dialectal, Hamshen) resin of the մարխի (marxi) tree
Usage notes
In June, cuts are made by axes on the tree, and the resin is collected as it flows out from the cuts.
