Etymology

Of uncertain origin. Perhaps a substrate word related to Hurrian 𒅗𒁲 (ka-di /kade/, grain, barley),[1] Hattic 𒅗𒄿𒀉 (ka-i-it /kait/, grain, corn), Ancient Greek κοδομεύς (kodomeús, one who roasts barley).
