Etymology

An Iranian borrowing: compare Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (kpyc, a grain measure).[1][2][3][4][5] See Arabic قَفِيز (qafīz) for more.

In the dialects survives in Moks կապաիճ (kapaič, unit of measure equal to 5–6 kilograms),[6] Mush կապեճ (kapeč, hay of grass and wheat),[7] Hamshen կապճակ (kapčak, tithe of wheat given to miller) and կապիծ (kapic), the latter a borrowing from Laz კაპიწი (ǩap̌iǯi)[2].
