Etymology

From an unattested Aramaic descendant of Arabic زُبّ‎ (zubb, “dick”), whence also Turkish zıbık (“dildo”).

     Այլ թէ ամուսնոյ կամ աւտարի արկանէ զլեզուն ի բերան, այս առաւել զազրալի թուի լեզուաւն շնալ։ Սա ի մէջ շնութեան, և արուագիտութեան և մծղնէից տեսանի բան։ Արդ, առաւել քան զշնացողացն, կրկին հատուսցէ զապաշխարութիւն։ Իսկ եթէ անսգայեալ յանարժանութիւնս յայս գան, արկանեն զմատունս յելս աղբոյ միմեանց, և կանանց ընղ ծննդական մասունս վարեն։ Այլ և կանայք վարդապետութեամբ Սատանայի արտաքոյ բնութեան աւտար իմն գործի[ս] արարեալ ի նիւթոյ, կապեն ընդ ազդերն և այնպէս առնաբար ընդ ընկերս մերձաւորին։ Արդ, որ յաղագս լեզուին և մատանց և կանացն զուպային (var. զուպաին, զոպային, զոպաին) այս է։ Եթէ ոք զայսոսիկ գործելոյ զղջասցի, ջերմ ապաշխարութեամբ քաւեսցէ, յետին թաւշակին արժանա[սցի]։ Ապա թէ ի չար սովորութեան անդառնալի մնասցէ, զրկեսցի յետին թաւշակէն։ Այլ կանայք, որ զուպային առնեն՝ թէ փոքրագունից կամ աղախնաց իւրեանց առնեն ակամայ գոլով նոցա, թեթևագոյն է ապաշխարութիւն։ Իսկ գիտողացն և արարողացն զչարութիւն, արուագիտացն է կարգ, և նոցա ջերմ ապաշխարութեամբ՝ թԷ լիցին յետին թաւշակին արժանի։

Ard, aṙawel kʿan zšnacʿołacʿn, krkin hatuscʿē zapašxarutʿiwn. Isk etʿē ansgayeal yanaržanutʿiwns yays gan, arkanen zmatuns yels ałboy mimeancʿ, ew kanancʿ ənł cnndakan masuns varen. Ayl ew kanaykʿ vardapetutʿeamb Satanayi artakʿoy bnutʿean awtar imn gorci[s] arareal i niwtʿoy, kapen ənd azdern ew aynpēs aṙnabar ənd ənkers merjaworin. Ard, or yałags lezuin ew matancʿ ew kanacʿn zupayin (var. zupain, zopayin, zopain) ays ē. Etʿē okʿ zaysosik gorceloy złǰascʿi, ǰerm apašxarutʿeamb kʿawescʿē, yetin tʿawšakin aržana[scʿi]. Apa tʿē i čʿar sovorutʿean andaṙnali mnascʿē, zrkescʿi yetin tʿawšakēn. Ayl kanaykʿ, or zupayin aṙnen, tʿē pʿokʿragunicʿ kam ałaxnacʿ iwreancʿ aṙnen akamay golov nocʿa, tʿetʿewagoyn ē apašxarutʿiwn. Isk gitołacʿn ew ararołacʿn zčʿarutʿiwn, aruagitacʿn ē karg, ew nocʿa ǰerm apašxarutʿeamb, tʿĒ licʿin yetin tʿawšakin aržani.

       If anyone inserts his tongue into the mouth of his spouse or a strange woman, this most lewd action is counted fornication by the tongue. The prescription concerning adultery, homosexuality and incest is applicable. This, more than the act of adultery, calls for double repentance. If they unrepentantly stoop to this unworthy deed, they [may come to] insert their fingers into each other's anus and into the woman's genital parts. Women also, taught by Satan and contrary to nature, fabricate an alien instrument of some material, bind it round their loins and couple with their companions like men. Now, concerning the tongue and the fingers and the zupay of women, [the canon] is as follows: if any confess to these things, they shall atone in zealous repentance and be worthy of the viaticum. But if women who use the zupay do so with smaller girls or their maidservants against their will, the penance is less severe [for the latter]; but those who perform this evil knowingly come under the rule governing homosexuals, and for them zealous penance [is prescribed] if they are to be worthy of the viaticum.
