单词 եղինձ
释义

եղինձ

Armenian

Etymology

According to Ačaṙean, a blend of եղ (, oil) + բրինձ (brinj, rice), created by linguistic purists in Constantinople.[1] But such an artificial creation is unlikely as the word is recorded in the dialect of Urmia–Salmas.[2] It is also found as a Grabar gloss to Ashkharhabar փիլաւ (pʿilaw) in HHB.[3]

More likely belongs with Old Armenian աղանձեմ (ałanjem), Armenian աղանձ (ałanj), and especially dialectal Armenian եղնձել (ełnjel, to roast corn).[4]
