Via an intermediary (probably Mongolic) source, from Turkic *quduğ "well" (compare Old Turkic quduğ (quduğ), quδuğ (quδuğ, “well”)), from Proto-Turkic *Kud- (“to pour”).
Compare ҡойо (qoyo), the native Kypchak development from the same archetype, and ҡоҙоҡ (qoðoq).
