From Middle Mongolian [Han needed] (qurilta, “assembly”), from Proto-Mongolic *kurï- (“to gather, to assemble”). Compare Mongolian хурах (hurah, “to gather, to convene”), хурал (hural, “assembly”).
Cognate with Kazakh құрылтай (qurıltay, “assembly”), Crimean Tatar qurultay, Uyghur قۇرۇلتاي (qurultay), etc.
