Etymology
From *qara- (“to look”), probably borrowed from Middle Mongolian[1], from Proto-Mongolic *kara- (“to look”)[2].
Cognate with Kazakh қарау (qaraw, “to look”), Kyrgyz кара- (kara-, “to look”), Southern Altai кара- (kara-, “to look”), Uzbek qaramoq (“to look”), Uyghur قارىماق (qarimaq, “to look”), Khakas хара- (xara-, “to look”).
