Etymology
From Latin synōnymum, from Ancient Greek συνώνυμον (sunṓnumon), neuter singular form of συνώνυμος (sunṓnumos, “synonymous”), from σύν (sún, “with”) + ὄνομα (ónoma, “name”). Compare Russian сино́ним (sinónim), Belarusian сіно́нім (sinónim), Polish synonim.
