осклабить
Russian
Etymology
Borrowed from Church Slavonic; compare Old Church Slavonic склабити сѩ (sklabiti sję, “to smile”) and inherited Old East Slavic осколобление (oskoloblenie, “smile”). Cognate with Ukrainian сколо́бити (skolóbyty, “to torture”), Czech šklebiti (“to grin”), ošklíbati sе (“to grin”), Slovene skľabiť sa (“to grin”), Old Polish skɫobiony. Inherited from Proto-Slavic *oskolbiti; distantly cognate with Old Norse skelpa (“grimace”, literally “crack”).
